Cambridge, Mass. - For helping the Stony Brook volleyball team to three wins this past weekend, freshman outside hitter Melissa Rigo (East Northport, N.Y.) has been named America East Rookie of the Week for the third consecutive week, the conference office announced Monday.

The true freshman totaled a team-best 77 kills to go along with 50 digs in four matches at Fordham’s Rose Hill Classic, leading the Seawolves to a second place finish. She scored a double double in three out of four matches of the tournament and had a clutch performance against Fordham in which she sent the match to a fifth set with two kills that broke a 27-27 tie.

Rigo leads America East in kills per set (4.33) and service aces per set (0.46).

Through 10 matches, Rigo has 169 kills, 105 digs, 18 service aces and 15 blocks while hitting a team-best 25.7 percent.

Rigo and the Seawolves are back in action this weekend at the Seton Hall Invitational, taking on the host Pirates Friday at 7 p.m., and Morgan State Saturday at 11 a.m.
