#Seawolves release 2014 schedule
June 9, 2014
Stony Brook, N.Y. - The Stony Brook volleyball team will play 12 matches at Pritchard Gymnasium, including the first-ever Seawolves Invite, head coach Coley Pawlikowski announced Monday as part of the 2014 slate.
"Coming off a strong spring, my staff and team are excited for the 2014 season to begin," Pawlikowski said. "We continue to grow as a group and are proud of the effort our team is putting in.
"We are excited about our non-conference schedule and are optimistic as we look forward to a great season. Heading to Chicago for the DePaul Invitational and down to the University of Arkansas for the Razorback Invitational will provide us with solid opportunities to play teams outside of the northeast. We are also looking forward to the Seawolves Invite Sept. 19-20, when we will have the opportunity to play three matches on our own home court as we open up conference play the following weekend! We can't wait for the Stony Brook Band and our fans to be rocking Pritchard this fall as they cheer on our Seawolves!"
Stony Brook opens the season Aug. 29 at DePaul in the DePaul Invitational. The squad will play Hampton and Bradley the following day.
The Seawolves tangle with regional rival Hofstra for the first time since 2009 when they head to Hempstead Sept. 3. SBU's home opener vs. Fordham Sept. 9 at 7 p.m. is sandwiched between tournaments at Columbia (Sept. 5-6) and Arkansas (Sept. 12-13).
Stony Brook will welcome Kennesaw State, Western Michigan and St. Francis Brooklyn to Pritchard for the Seawolves Invite Sept. 19-20. SBU will play KSU in the nightcap Sept. 19 at 7 p.m. before taking on Western Michigan and St. Francis Brooklyn Sept. 20 at 11:30 a.m. and 6 p.m., respectively.
The Seawolves commence America East action at Hartford Sept. 26 and host an out-of-conference match vs. Manhattan Oct. 1. A league home match with UMBC follows on Oct. 3.
SBU clashes with SUNY rivals Albany (Oct. 10) and Binghamton (Oct. 11) on the road before opening a four-match home stand with defending America East champion New Hampshire (Oct. 18). The Seawolves entertain UMass Lowell (Oct. 19), Seton Hall (Oct. 21) and Hartford (Oct. 24) to close out the home swing.
After road trips to Delaware State (Oct. 30) and UMBC (Oct. 31), Stony Brook returns to Pritchard for highly-anticipated matchups with Binghamton (Nov. 7) and Albany (Nov. 9). The Seawolves conclude regular-season conference action at New Hampshire (Nov. 13) and UMass Lowell (Nov. 14).
The top four teams in the conference will vie for the America East title at the highest seed. Finalized dates and times are TBD but the matches will be played over two consecutive days Nov. 21-23.
After the tournament, SBU plays at Yale Tuesday, Nov. 25 at 5 p.m.
