Bronx, N.Y, - Freshman Melissa Rigo posted season-highs of 23 kills and 17 digs as the Stony Brook volleyball team rallied for a five-set victory for the second straight day, beating Bucknell for its third straight win on Saturday at the Rose Hill Classic. The Seawolves opened the day with a sweep of Cornell. Set scores for the Bucknell match were 25-12, 23-25, 23-25, 25-16, 15-12. Set scores for the Cornell match were 25-13, 25-21, 25-21. Coach DesLauriers' reaction "This weekend we really came together as a team. Everyone saw playing time and we consistently played tough throughout each set. SB hit .355 in its opening set victory over Bucknell After dropping the second and third sets to the Bison, the Seawolves trailed just once (3-2) in taking the fourth set and forcing a fifth Stony Brook trailed 8-6 in the fifth set but scored three straight points, taking the lead for good on a kill from Slaughter The Seawolves then closed out the Bison with kills from Rigo on two of the last three points SB closed out the opening set against Cornell with a 15-5 run which included three kills apiece from Rigo and Slaughter Stony Brook then hit .333 in the second set before posting a .306 hitting percentage in the third to close out the sweep of the Big Red Next Up The Seawolves play their final tournament of the season next weekend at the SHU Invitational where they will take on Seton Hall & Morgan State. |
