Stony Brook, N.Y. -

Greetings and welcome to the preseason edition of the 2013-14 Coach's Corner - a newsletter to keep you informed and up to date on Stony Brook Tennis!

Fall Season
The Seawolves will be heading back to campus this week to embark on another exciting season. Practice starts on August 28 and the 10th annual Carpenter Classic will commence on Friday, August 30. Please mark your calendars for the following events - On September 6-7, the men host the fifth annual Stony Brook Invitational. The weekend of September 13-15 will mark the seventh annual Stony Brook Classic women's tournament. Admission is free, so please stop by, bring some friends and wear RED. On the weekend of September 27-29, the women will head to West Point for the Army Invitational and the men will be in Philadelphia for the Penn tournament. The fall season will end with the ITA Regional tournaments from October 17-20. The women will be at Harvard, and the men will play at Yale.

Homecoming - aka Wolfstock - aka Long Island's biggest outdoor BBQ will be Saturday, October 5. Both teams will be in town this year and we would love to have a get-together at the courts on Saturday morning. Please let me know if you'll be in town and we'll have bagels, juice and maybe some Seawolves gear to give away.

News and Notes
It's been a busy summer for our former Seawolves. Congratulations are in order as Arlene "Bomber" Barksdale '07, Gayatri "Krippler" Krishnan '11 and Gareth "The Wall" Williams `03 all have announced their engagements. A big rumor is swirling that Sandy "Dunebuggy" Wijeratne '08 will be making a limited appearance on American soil for the Barksdale affair next year.

Mike "Nails" Crooks '06 celebrated his sixth anniversary to the lovely Felicity back in July. On the other hand, "Tiger" Tal Meir '06 has dated the last five consecutive Miss Israel winners, but has not popped the question to any of them. Ilan "Storm" Shvartz '10 will be celebrating his 2nd anniversary in October and has settled in Maryland (land of Jon "Enigma" Epstein '10).

Georgia "Peach" Bushell '04 is healthy and competing again as she made her comeback on the grass back in March. Big congrats to Georgia!! Lauren "Pua" Conching '04, the 2013 Division II National Coach of the Year, made a visit back to campus this summer and I met her husband, Hendrik. Speaking of coming back to campus, "Pistol" Paola Rodolfi '10 will be coming to town September 4 and we're excited to see her again. If any of you are planning to attend the US Open, please let me know and we'll see if we can arrange an ad hoc reunion.

Roope "Sniper" Kailaheimo '12 has completed his course work at the London School of Economics and will finish in December. Chloe "C-Lo" Pike `13 will be starting her graduate work at University of Bath (pronounced differently in the UK) this fall and Robert "Big Bear" Forai '13 will be heading to the University of Glasgow for his graduate studies. Such is the Circle of Seawolves Life.

If any of you have news or updates - please let me know and I'll be happy to spread the word. For the most up to date news - please follow us on Twitter @Seawolves Tennis and on Facebook - Stony Brook Men's & Women's Tennis.

Save the Date: The eighth Annual Seawolves Family FunFest will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2014.

The 2013-14 season should prove to be very exciting. We have a great group of returners and newcomers on the squad. Please come on out and cheer for your Seawolves this year!!

If you know of any teammates/supporters that would like to receive the Coach's Corner - please feel free to send me their email address.

Take care and I look forward to seeing you on the other side of the net!
