Women's tennis falls to Columbia, 6-1

New York, N.Y. - The Stony Brook women's tennis team fell to No. 46 Columbia, 6-1, at the Dick Savitt Tennis Center on Saturday. Senior Nini Lagvilava (Tbilsi, Georgia) picked up the only point for Stony Brook, rallying to win in three sets at No. 1 singles. Columbia's Nicole Bartnik topped Lagvilava, 6-4, in the first set, but Lagvilava answered in the second set to force a third-set tiebreaker. Lagvilava outlasted Bartnik in the third set, winning 10-8. Sophomore Cassandra Dix (Northamptonshire, U.K.) also forced a third-set tiebreaker, but fell in the final set, 10-3. The Seawolves will be in Rhode Island next weekend, facing Brown and Bryant. Columbia 6, Stony Brook 1 Singles:
