Women's Tennis splits on opening weekend

Hanover, N.H. - Stony Brook University's women's tennis team opened its spring season by splitting a pair of matches over the weekend at Dartmouth College. SBU defeated Southern New Hampshire 7-0 on Sunday after falling to No. 57 Dartmouth on Saturday, 6-1. The Seawolves (1-1) dropped just one set against Southern New Hampshire on Sunday as junior Nini Lagvilava (Tbilisi, Georgia) dropped just two games at No. 1 singles and freshman Polina Movchan (Kiev, Ukraine) lost just one game at No. 2 singles. Lagvilava and Movchan also teamed together for an 8-1 victory at No. 1 doubles. Junior Chloe Pike (Bristol, England) coasted to a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 5 singles on Sunday against Southern New Hampshire. On Saturday against Dartmouth, Pike earned Stony Brook's only point of the match with a 7-5, 6-1 victory at No. 6 singles. Stony Brook returns to action this weekend, traveling to take Army and Connecticut.
