Alexander coached at Stony Brook for 32 years and left a mark on thousands of student-athletes
Chris Brandenberger joined the Stony Brook swimming and diving program as an assistant coach in October 2010, before being promoted to the role of interim head coach in July 2012. Prior to Stony Brook, Brandenberger spent two years on the coaching staff at Iona College and two years as an assistant coach at Washington College in Chestertown, Md.
A Stony Brook native and Ward Melville graduate, Brandenberger was a four-year letterwinner at the University of Maryland. A first team All-ACC selection in 2004, Brandenberger helped set a school record in the 800 freestyle relay. He was a two-time team captain as voted by his teammates and coaches for strong commitment to teamwork and leadership. He received the Dave Diehl Dedication Award Recipient in 2004, which was voted by the coaching staff for most dedicated member of the team.
Brandenberger graduated from Maryland with a degree in English Language and Literature in 2006.
He also served as an undergraduate assistant coach for the Terrapins while completing his bachelor's degree as well as assisting at the Upper Montgomery County YMCA.
