Stony Brook, N.Y. - Head coach Megan Bryant and the Stony Brook softball program announced the hiring of Rachel Brown as an assistant coach on Thursday. Brown joins the Seawolves after a standout career as a pitcher at Harvard University.

"Rachel Brown will be a tremendous addition to our team, the Stony Brook athletic program and the University community," Bryant said. "During Rachel's career at Harvard, she was the epitome of a successful student-athlete: excelling in the classroom at one of the top universities in the world, while winning games and championships and being a true competitor."

Brown capped her illustrious collegiate career in May by pitching Harvard to its second straight Ivy League title and its first-ever NCAA Regional Final appearance. The San Diego, Calif. native won 21 games as a senior, including back-to-back victories over Maryland and Texas Tech in the NCAA Seattle Regional, and posted an impressive 1.40 ERA to go along with 252 strikeouts and 9 shutouts.

One of the greatest pitchers to ever don a Crimson uniform, Brown holds program records in career wins (75), saves (10), complete games (71), shutouts (26) and strikeouts (995). Brown was also a four-time All-Ivy League first team selection, a two-time Ivy League Pitcher of the Year (2011 and '12), a two-time Academic All-Ivy League honoree ('11 and '12), a two-time Capital One Academic All-District selection ('11 and '12) and a 2012 Lowe's Senior CLASS nominee.

Brown graduated from Harvard in May with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology: Social and Cognitive Neuroscience. Following her graduation, Brown joined the Skovde Saints Softball Club in Skovde, Sweden and provided individual and group instruction and daily practice plans as a player/coach. Brown also assisted in coaching the Swedish National Team in Prague, Czech Republic at the European Cup.

"Rachel knows pitching: the mechanics, methods, and the mental component," Bryant added. "She understands the challenges that go along with the position. Although she is a new graduate, Rachel has been teaching and coaching for years. She will be a terrific mentor and role model for our team as well as a leader for our pitching staff."
