#Seawolves renew rivalry with Hofstra Thursday

Preview: The rivalry between Long Island's only two Division I programs will be renewed Thursday as Stony Brook hosts Hofstra at University Field. The Seawolves and Pride both reached the NCAA Tournament last season and were sent to compete at the Columbia regional at the University of Missouri.
Opponent: Hofstra comes into Thursday's game with a six-game winning streak, most recently beating Iona, 4-1. Seven hitters are batting .300 or better, including Chloe Fitzgerald, who's hitting .375 with 36 hits, including four triples. Maggie Hawkins and Erin Trippi have combined to hit 11 home runs and 46 RBIs. Taylor Pirone and Morgan Lashley are Hofstra's primary starters in the circle. Pirone is 8-3 with a 1.30 ERA and Lashley is 12-3 with a 1.82 ERA.
Series: Hofstra has won each of the eight previous meetings, including an 8-0 decision in 2009, the last time the two programs have played. Three of the games have been separated by one run.
Up Next: Stony Brook will get back to America East play with a three-game series at UMass Lowell. It will be the first game against the River Hawks since 1996 when the two programs were both in Division II.
