Softball Tops Columbia in Pitchers' Duel
Sophomore Colleen Matthes (Severn, Md.) allowed just two hits in 5.2 innings as Stony Brook University's softball team beat Columbia, 2-1, on Sunday at the FAU "Miken" Classic. The Seawolves won three of their five games at the Invitational and are now 7-3 on the season.

Preview: After sweeping Hartford in America East Conference play, the Stony Brook softball team will play three straight non-conference games beginning at Columbia Tuesday.  The Seawolves are 5-1 in April and are two games over .500 for the first time this season.

Opponent: Columbia features six regulars with a batting average of .300 or better.  Alix Cook leads the Lions with a .355 average.  Seven different players have double-digit RBIs, including Shelby Unger, who has three HRs and 17 runs batted in.  Emily Kenyon and Brooke Darling each have started 10 games in the circle.  Brooke Darling is 7-6 with a 4.09 ERA in 75 1/3 innings and Kenyon is 4-4 with a 2.90 ERA in 48 1/3 innings.  Columbia is 12-1 at home this season.

Series: Stony Brook leads the all-time series, 5-2, winning the last five.  Tuesday's game will be the first since 2009. 

Up Next: Stony Brook will host Hofstra on Thursday, April 10 at 4 p.m.  The two programs have not played since 2009.
