Farmville, Va. - The Stony Brook softball team will play in its second tournament of the season this weekend when it faces Longwood and Bucknell in Farmville, Va. The Seawolves (1-5) will face each team twice, beginning Saturday against the Bison at 1 p.m.

Longwood Spring Classic Schedule

Sat., Feb. 23: Stony Brook vs. Bucknell, 1 p.m.
Sat., Feb. 23: Stony Brook at Longwood, 5 p.m.
Sun., Feb. 24: Stony Brook vs. Bucknell, 10:30 a.m.
Sun., Feb. 24: Stony Brook at Longwood, 12:30 p.m.

Stony Brook

The Seawolves opened the 2013 campaign last weekend in Jacksonville, Fla. and posted a 1-5 record against No. 17 Louisville, Jacksonville, Bethune-Cookman and Ohio State. Stony Brook registered its lone win against Bethune-Cookman, a 2-1 decision, as junior Christine Lucido (Melville, N.Y.) tossed six innings of one-run ball.

Junior Nicole Hagerty (Sicklerville, N.J.) led the Seawolves with a .474 average, two doubles and one RBI, while Lucido posted a 1-0 record to go along with a 2.69 ERA and four strikeouts.

Bucknell

The Bison opened their season at the CSU Dome Tournament in Cleveland, Ohio last weekend and posted a 1-3 record. Bucknell beat St. Bonaventure, 8-7, to open the competition, but fell to Cleveland State twice and Canisius to round out the weekend.

Cheyanna Young (.308) and Cyndee Sanders (.286) each have four hits to lead the Bison so far, while Mallory Lyons owns a team-high two RBI.

Amanda Fazio leads the team with 14.2 innings pitched to go along with 12 strikeouts and a 2.86 ERA.


 

 

Longwood

The host Lancers are off to a 4-0 start this season with a pair of wins over North Carolina Central and St. Francis (Pa.). Longwood is averaging 10 runs per game and has outscored its opposition 40-6 thus far, including a 20-4 rout of St. Francis on Feb. 21.

Megan Baltzell is off to a blazing start, hitting .636 with four homers and 11 RBI, while Jordan Cox has swatted a pair of long-balls to go along with seven RBI.

In the circle, Brooke Short has won two games and has not allowed a run in nine innings pitched this year. Libby Morris has also pitched well with a 1.91 ERA and nine strikeouts in 11 innings.
