Final Stats

Lowell, Mass. - Behind strong pitching performances from junior Allison Cukrov (Irvine, Calif.) and sophomore Jane Sallen (Lake Worth, Fla.), the Stony Brook softball team swept a doubleheader from UMass Lowell Saturday.

The Seawolves beat the River Hawks, 5-0, in game one and won game two, 2-1.

Head Coach Megan Bryant's Reaction
"Allie and Jane gave us solid performances today. Jane stayed tough in game two without a lot of run support. We will look to come out tomorrow with a better offensive approach."

Game One Recap
Cukrov was backed by three home runs, including two from junior Bria Green (Wheatley Heights, N.Y.). Green belted a homer in the first inning, a two-run shot for her seventh HR of the season.

Up 3-0 in the seventh, senior Jessica Combs (Hammonton, N.J.) led off the inning with her third of the season. Three batters later, Green homered to left to make it 5-0.

Cukrov was outstanding again, throwing a one-hitter to pick up her 13th win of the season. She allowed three walks and struck out seven in her 10th complete game of the season.

Sophomore Alexandra Pisciotta continued her torrid pace with a single to left to load the bases. Junior Jessica Zeilman hit into an fielder's choice to drive in Phelan for the first run.

Green's RBI single in the fifth drove in senior Olivia Mintun (Neoga, Ill.) to make it 2-0.

Sallen, who tossed her fifth complete game of the season, shut the River Hawks out through six innings. In the seventh, Kathryn Donovan singled to right with one out. After Sallen struck out Alisha Welch, Tori Alcorn doubled in Welch and advanced to third on the throw. But Sallen buckled down and struck out Brianna Martin to end the game.
