Head coach Megan Bryant and the Stony Brook softball program announced the hiring of Shannon Doepking as an assistant coach in August 2012. A standout catcher at the University of Tennessee, Doepking previously served as an assistant coach at Fairleigh Dickinson University and played professionally for four years.
In addition to serving as the team's hitting and outfield coach, Doepking will work closely with the catchers and will oversee team travel and serve as the liaison to strength and conditioning. Doepking will also assist with recruiting, camps and clinics, and fundraising.
During her collegiate career, Doepking made three Women's College World Series appearances with the Lady Vols, including the 2007 National Championship series. A first-team All-SEC selection in 2007, Doepking ranks first all time at Tennessee in career putouts with 2,166. In addition, Doepking is 8th all-time at UT in games played (266), 9th in career walks (85) and 10th in career RBI (141).
The Acton, Calif. native graduated from Tennessee in 2008 with a bachelor's degree in sociology, before signing on with the Chicago Bandits of the National Pro Fastpitch League (NPF). During her time with Chicago, Doepking helped the team to back-to-back championship appearances, including a league title in 2011.
In 2010, Doepking joined the coaching staff at Fairleigh Dickinson, where she assisted with practice sessions, recruiting, player development and fundraising. Doepking earned a master's degree from FDU in sports administration in 2012.
