Stony Brook, N.Y. - Stony Brook University's women's soccer team recently earned the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas Team Academic Award, given to programs that post a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher. It is the fifth straight season that the Seawolves have earned the honor.

The 2009 Seawolves advanced to the America East semifinals, the third consecutive year that SBU has advanced to at least the semifinals. Stony Brook also played No. 23 Rutgers to a 1-1 tie and defeated eventual conference champion Boston University, 2-1, during the regular season. The victory over the Terriers ended BU's 22 game conference-win streak.

In addition to receiving the Team Academic Award, the Seawolves also had one of its student-athletes, junior Debbie Aller (Stony Brook, N.Y.) named to the 12-member America East All-Academic team. To be named to the All-Academic squad, student-athletes had to be a starter or important reserve for their team and have at least a 3.3 GPA.
