Stony Brook, N.Y. - SEAWOLVES DEFEAT COLUMBIA IN OVERTIME: Stony Brook took the field Sunday against Columbia and came away with a solid 3-2 overtime victory. After falling behind 1-0, Krisha Zagura knocked home the rebound of a Jen Fontanetta shot and the game was even at one. In the second half, Kerri McCabe converted a cross from Fontanetta and the Seawolves led 2-1. Less than a minute later, the Lions scored to make the score 2-2. Neither team could score in regulation and the game went to overtime. Stony Brook controlled the overtime period and seven minutes into the extra stanza the Seawolves struck for the gamewinner. Beth Arikian's direct kick sailed into the penalty area and Kristin Lynch headed the ball to a wide open Sarah Greenberg in front of the Columbia goal. Greenberg pushed it past the goalie and the Seawolves had their eighth win of the year.
SEAWOLVES VERSUS PRINCETON: Princeton holds a 4-0 series edge.
GREEN IS MEAN: Sarah Greenberg is having quite a freshman season. The 5-2 midfielder from Frankin Lakes, N.J. has three goals and eight assists on the season. The eight assists equals the fourth best single-season performance in school history.
PUTTING IN EXTRA TIME: The Seawolves have played five overtime games this season, the most ever in school history. They are 3-1-1 in those games.
ENGINE, ENGINE NUMBER NINE . . . :Junior Kerri McCabe continued her fine play on Sunday against Columbia with another goal. She now has 13 goals and six assists on the year for a team-leading 32 points. McCabe now has 49 career points which ranks her fifh all-time.
SEASON ENDING: Stony Brook wraps up the 2000 campaign Tuesday evening against Princeton. It is the second night game of the year and fifth against Ivy League opponents. The Seawolves are 2-2 this year versus the Ivy League.
