West Hartford, Conn. -  Hartford’s Chanel Johnson scored her third goal of the game 8:24 into overtime to give the Hawks a 3-2 win over Stony Brook on Thursday at Al-Marzook Field. Junior Christina Casamassina (Farmingville, N.Y.) and redshirt junior Queli Ornelas (Palm Harbor, Fla.) scored for Stony Brook, which fell to 7-4-1 and 2-1-0 in the America East.

Goal Recaps

• Stony Brook opened the scoring with 48 seconds remaining in the first half. Sophomore Stella Norman (Lakewood, Colo.) lofted a free kick into the Hartford box, and after a momentary scramble, the ball found its way onto the foot of Casamassina, who slotted home her first collegiate goal to make it 1-0.
• The Hawks (7-4-3, 2-2-0 America East) equalized just 3:15 into the second half when Johnson rifled a shot into the upper left corner of the net from 40 yards out.
• Hartford then took the lead at the 54:35 mark when Johnson cut in from the left wing and slipped a shot into the bottom left corner.
• The Seawolves drew even in the 71st minute when freshman Leah Yurko (Cumberland, Md.) drove down the left wing and crossed the ball in front to senior Queli Ornelas (Palm Harbor, Fla.), who was able to get a toe to the ball and direct it into the net.
• The Hawks won the match 8:24 into overtime when Johnson curled a shot around a lunging Ashley Castanio and into the right side-netting  from 15 yards out.

• Both teams fired 18 shots in the match
• Hartford held a 6-2 edge in corner kicks.
• Castanio made five saves for Stony Brook.
• Hartford keeper Jessica Jurg turned away four shots.
• Johnson led all players with nine shot attempts.

News & Notes

•  Yurko and fellow freshman Christina Fluman (Pittsford, N.Y.) each picked up their first collegiate assists Thursday.
• Ornelas scored her third goal of the year Thursday, tying her for second on the team in goals with Norman and sophomore Emily Murrer (Aptos, Calif.).
• The last three matchups between Stony Brook and Hartford have each been decided by one goal.
• Stony Brook is 4-3 this season in one-goal games.
