Final Stats

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Freshman Aley Leonardi (Kennebunkport, Maine) netted her first collegiate goal, the game-tying goal, in the 69th minute as the Stony Brook women's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw against Temple on Sunday.

Coach's Reaction

"There are a lot of positives to take out of this game as building blocks for the season, but also some things we still have to work on. I'm excited about the youth of our team with a freshman scoring her first goal today. At one point we had five freshmen on the field at the same time which really says a lot about that class and the future of our program. It was a strong statement for us to come back after a tough game on Friday, so we feel good about where we are as long as we keep moving forward from here."

-- Head Coach Sue Ryan

Goal Recaps

• Temple took a 1-0 lead in the 26th minute when Kate Yurkovic fired a shot off the crossbar, but headed home the rebound
• Leonardi brought the hosts level at 68:54, latching onto a Caitlin Pfeiffer (Holland, N.Y.) cross and lashing it home from the middle of the field just inside the 18-yard box

The Numbers Game

• Stony Brook held a 20-13 edge in shots
• The Seawolves attempted six corner kicks in the match
• Freshman Tessa Devereaux (Fayetteville, N.Y) led Stony Brook with three shots on goal
• Seawolves' keeper Ashley Castanio (Oceanside, N.Y.) made eight saves

Key Plays

• Castanio made several big stops for the Seawolves, including a point-blank denial of Temple's Casey Greco 20 minutes into the contest
• Freshman Kristen Baker (Easley, S.C.) drilled a shot just wide of the right post from nearly 30 yards out with 19 minutes left in regulation
• Devereaux made a beautiful pass to find freshman Raven Edwards (West Orange, N.J.) open at the top of the box with five minutes left in regulation, but Edwards' attempt rolled just wide of the left post
