BALTIMORE, Md. — US Lacrosse has named Stony Brook University women’s lacrosse and New York Lizards head coach Joe Spallina a speaker at the US Lacrosse National Convention, presented by Champion. Spallina will join roughly 200 of the sport’s best coaches and officials as presenters at the largest professional development event in the world for lacrosse coaches, officials and administrators Jan. 10-12, 2014, in Philadelphia.

Spallina will host “Individual Offense” for girls’ lacrosse coaches at 10:40 a.m. Jan. 11 on the Demo Field and “Half Field Build-Up: The Complete Team Drill” for boys’ lacrosse coaches at 4:40 p.m. Jan. 11 on the STX Live Field in the Pennsylvania Convention Center.

“Joe Spallina ranks among the most dynamic, engaging coaches in lacrosse today, and he’s proven himself as one of the best in the men’s game and in the women’s game,” said Beth Porreca, director of special events at US Lacrosse. “We know he’ll have plenty to share for the benefit of attendees at our convention.”

“I’m honored to be selected to speak at the US Lacrosse National Convention,” Spallina said. “I’ve been blessed by many coaches who have helped me develop over the years, and I’m looking forward to giving back to the game by sharing some tips for youth and high school coaches at the convention.”

Spallina will enter his third season at Stony Brook in 2014, having led the Seawolves to the NCAA tournament’s round of 16, their first America East Conference championship and a program-best 17 wins in 2013. He’ll also enter his third season as head coach of the Lizards. Prior to Stony Brook, Spallina served as the women’s lacrosse head coach at Adelphi University, his alma mater, for four years. He guided the Panthers to three NCAA championships and another appearance in the national semifinals, compiling a 73-2 overall record. Spallina was a four-year starter at midfield for the Panthers in the mid-1990s.
