Radnor, Pa. – Senior and three-year captain Jessica Romano of the No. 20/18 Stony Brook women’s lacrosse team has accepted an invitation to play in the IWLCA/deBeer North-South Senior All-Star Game. The game, which will be held June 7 at Cabrini College, will feature some of the top seniors in the country. First draw is slated for 11:30 a.m.

The Massapequa, N.Y., product bought into head coach Joe Spallina’s system on day one and has been a pivotal part of one of the best defensive units in NCAA history. In 2014, she started every game for the nation’s top-ranked scoring defense that broke its own NCAA Division I record for goals-against average (GAA). The Seawolves surrendered 5.31 goals per game this season compared to 5.65 in 2013, when Romano saw action in 18 contests.

Romano scooped up 21 ground balls and was fourth on the team with 19 caused turnovers to help Stony Brook hold opponents to single-digit goal scoring 19 times in 21 games, to five goals or fewer 13 times and to three goals or fewer six times. She recorded one ground ball and one caused turnover in SBU’s first-ever shutout, a 13-0 win over Monmouth Feb. 19.

Romano was named to the America East All-Championship team after helping the Seawolves break their own tournament records for fewest total (6) and single-game (1 vs. Albany, 5/4) goals allowed. She was a second-team all-conference selection in 2012 and was honored on the All-Academic team as a senior for her excellence on the field and in the classroom.

Participants will be honored at a dinner June 6 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Valley Forge, Pa.
