Frankie Caridi: Tewaaraton nominee | Bracket

Stony Brook, N.Y. - The No. 20 Stony Brook women's lacrosse team will square off with Towson in the first round of the NCAA Tournament Friday at Syracuse. The #Seawolves beat Towson, 8-6, in Maryland last season in their first NCAA Tournament game.

Stony Brook (16-3) booked its second consecutive NCAA Tournament trip with a 7-1 win over archrival Albany in the America East championship game played at LaValle Stadium. SBU's defense, ranked first in the country, broke America East Championship records for fewest total goals allowed (6) and fewest goals allowed in a tournament game (1). The Great Danes entered the weekend fourth nationally in scoring offense (15.07).

The nation's leader in goals-against average (GAA) and save percentage, senior goalie Frankie Caridi made six saves and was named Most Outstanding Player. Caridi, a Tewaaraton semifinalist, established a new tournament record for GAA (3.00).

Two rookie attackers pace Stony Brook on offense. Courtney Murphy has scored a team-high 56 goals, the most by any freshman in the country, while Dorrien Van Dyke has recorded a Seawolves-best 62 points.

Junior midfielder Michelle Rubino is third in goals (35) and points (57) and second in assists (22). She shares the team lead in draw controls with freshman midfielder Kristin Yevoli (43) and is Stony Brook's all-time leader in draw controls (194).

Towson (11-7) won the CAA championship, 12-11, over Towson.

The winner will play No. 2 Syracuse Sunday in the second round.
