Cambridge, Mass. –Freshman attacker Courtney Murphy struck four times to lead the No. 15/15t Stony Brook women’s lacrosse team to a pair of wins and has been named America East Rookie of the Week for the second consecutive time, the conference office announced Monday morning.

Murphy recorded a game-high three goals in an important win over No. 18/17 Albany, a team that entered the game first in the conference and fifth nationally in scoring offense. The victory put Stony Brook in sole possession of first place in the America East standings and was the second for the Seawolves over a ranked opponent in program history and the Joe Spallina era.

She chipped in one goal and one ground ball in a comeback win at Yale Wednesday.

One of the nation’s top rookies, Murphy leads the team with 41 goals, the eighth-most in Stony Brook single-season history, and is inching towards Kaitlin Leggio’s freshman mark of 46 set in 2006.

The Shirley, N.Y., native has now garnered four America East Rookie of the Week honors. She was selected WomensLAX.com National Rookie of the Week after setting a record for most goals in a freshman debut Feb. 15 vs. Bucknell.

SBU has won a league-high 10 weekly honors and has picked up at least one in eight of the season's nine weeks.

Stony Brook, which is riding a nine-game winning streak, will host New Hampshire Saturday. The team will honor its seniors in a pregame ceremony and can lock up hosting rights for the America East Championship for the second straight year with a win.
