WomensLax.com Release

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Hours after being named America East Rookie of the Week, freshman midfielder Dorrien Van Dyke of the No. 17/16 Stony Brook women's lacrosse team has picked up WomensLax.com National Rookie of the Week accolades. She is the second Seawolf to earn the honor as attacker Courtney Murphy was selected Feb. 17.

The Northport, N.Y., native had arguably the best offensive week of any America East player, leading the conference in points (17), points per game (8.5), goals (9), assists (8) and assists per game (4). Van Dyke posted a freshman-record nine points (five goals, four assists) against Siena Saturday, tied for the fifth-most in Stony Brook single-game history. She led SBU in points and assists in both contests and tallied a team-high four draw controls in Saturday's 19-6 rout of the Saints.

Only a rookie, Van Dyke is fifth nationally in goals (32) and eighth in goals per game (3.56) and leads all freshmen in both categories. She needs six goals to move into the top 10 of the program's single-season goals ledger.

Van Dyke returns to the field when the Seawolves host UMBC in their conference opener Saturday at 1 p.m.
