Men's and Women's Basketball Student-Athletes Visit Long Island State Veterans Home

Stony Brook University's basketball teams took some time off the court on Friday afternoon to visit the Long Island State Veterans Home to celebrate the opening of the 2008 Summer Olympic Games. The student-athletes along with assistant men's basketball coach Dan Rickard and women's head coach Michele Cherry conducted a short dribbling and passing demonstration before meeting with the over 50 veterans who attended the event. Former Seawolf Jessica Smith Leads Swiss Team To Brink Of Championship

Former Stony Brook women's basketball player Jessica Smith '08 has led her Canti Riva Basket Ceserio team to the brink of a Swiss Women's National League Championship in her first season of professional basketball. After falling to Université BC Neuchâtel in game one of the five-game series, 64-51, Smith has 31 points and 18 rebounds in the last two. She is averaging 12.3 ppg and 11.0 rpg in the finals. [+]
