Stony Brook, N.Y. - Stony Brook University Head Women's Basketball Coach Beth O'Boyle has resigned to accept the same position at VCU. Stony Brook will conduct a national search to find her successor.

"In a short period of time, Coach O'Boyle helped the women's basketball program to achieve great things here at Stony Brook, and I want to sincerely thank her for her efforts and wish her well on her future endeavors," Interim Director of Athletics Donna Woodruff said. "Our Seawolves women's basketball program is truly on the rise, and we look forward to finding the right head coach who will ensure that we continue our upward momentum."

O'Boyle, named Stony Brook's head coach in April 2011, coached the Seawolves for three seasons and is responsible for the nation's best active two-year turnaround, taking the team from four wins in 2011-12 to 24 wins this past season. The 24 wins are a Stony Brook Div. I program record, and with a 13-3 conference record, she guided the team to the America East Championship final for the first time since 2002. The team also earned a national postseason bid for the first time since 2006, appearing in the first round of the WNIT. O'Boyle was named 2014 Met Writers Coach of the Year for her efforts.
