Cambridge, Mass. – After leading the Stony Brook women’s basketball team to a pair of historic wins, junior guard Jessica Ogunnorin has been named America East and ECAC Co-Player of the Week. Ogunnorin averaged 15 points, 12.5 boards and 1.5 blocks per game as the #Seawolves ended their regular season with victories over Vermont and Albany.

Ogunnorin recorded her sixth double-double of the season on 12 points and a career-high 16 boards against Vermont Wednesday. She added one block and one steal in Stony Brook’s 21st win of the season, a new single-season Division I record.

The Athens, Greece product and first international recruit of the Beth O’Boyle era poured in a personal-best 18 points and pulled down nine boards to lift the Seawolves to an upset win over SUNY rival Albany Saturday. The win snapped the Great Danes’ conference-record 38-game America East winning streak, which was tied with the MEAC’s Hampton for the longest conference streak in the country, and locked up a No. 2 seed in the championship. The Seawolves’ America East finish is tied with the 2005-06 and 2006-07 teams for the highest in program history.

She is the third Seawolf to win an America East Player of the Week Award, joining teammates Chikilra Goodman and Sabre Proctor. Freshman guard Kori Bayne-Walker has twice been named Rookie of the Week.

Riding a seven-game winning streak, No. 2 Stony Brook will open play in the conference championship against No. 7 UMBC Friday at noon on ESPN3. The winner will advance to Sunday’s semifinal matchup, which will tip off at 11 a.m. or 1 p.m. on the broadband network.

The Seawolves are searching for their first America East title and Division I NCAA Tournament berth in program history and are two wins away from tying their all-time single-season wins mark of 24 set in 1986-87.
