Stony Brook hung with Hartford for much of the first half and trailed just 29-22 at the break. The Hawks opened the second stanza on an 11-4 run, capped off by a three-point play by Katie Roth to take a 40-26 lead at the 14:54 mark.
The Seawolves did not go down easily. Teasha Harris tallied a putback off a miss by Sam Landers to cut the deficit to 12, 40-28, with 14:11 remaining in the game. Bepko missed a triple, and Previlon pulled down a rebound and dished it to Harris, who found Klupenger, who nailed her 100th-career trey in transition to bring SBU within nine, 40-31, with 13:45 to play.
Nikkia Smith committed an offensive foul on the next possession, and Sabre Proctor drove to the hole for two with just under 13 remaining in the second stanza as Hartford's lead dwindled to seven, 40-33.
Doherty responded with a lay-up, but Previlon scored a bucket in the paint to keep the Seawolves within striking distance, 42-35, with 11:40 left in the game.
The Hawks responded with a 12-5 run over the next seven minutes, which started with a Doherty lay-up and ended with the sophomore forward hitting a pair of free throws at the 4:48 mark, to take a commanding 58-40 lead.
