Stony Brook, N.Y. - The Stony Brook women's basketball team battled for 40 minutes against Boston University, but could not overcome a 23-point effort by the Terriers' Chantell Alford in a 72-61 defeat Wednesday at Pritchard Gym.

Turning Point

• The Terriers (11-3, 1-0 AE) scorched the nets to start the game, hitting nine of their first 11 three-point attempts to build a sizeable advantage early on. Boston University's Chantell Alford scored 11 of her game-high 23 points in the first half as the visitors seized a 38-24 lead at the break.

The Seawolves (8-6, 0-1 AE) battled toe-to-toe with the Terriers in the second half, closing to within six at 63-57 after a Sabre Proctor basket with two minutes to play. The Seawolves continued to scratch and claw, but could get no closer, despite both teams struggling to hit free throws down the stretch. Stony Brook made just 7-of-22 foul shots (31.8%), while BU made 12-of-24 (50%).

• Stony Brook shot 48% (24-for-50) and hit 4-of-8 three-pointers.
• Boston University shot 47.2% (25-for-53) and drained 10 three-pointers, including nine in the game's first 12 minutes.
• BU hit 9 of their first 11 three's, but made just one of their final 12 attempts.
• The Terriers outrebounded Stony Brook by a 36-32 margin.
