Stony Brook, N.Y. -

Freshman Rick Timmermann (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) advanced to the semifinals in Flight A singles and sophomore Albert Fontova (Lleida, Spain) advanced to the semis in singles and doubles to lead the Stony Brook men's team on the opening day of the Stony Brook Invitational on Friday.

Timmermann defeated Christian Grau of Wagner, 8-2, in the opening round and then won the opening set in the quarterfinals before his opponent retired in the second set. Fontoava advanced to semis in Flight D singles after teaming with senior Robert Forai (Novi Sad, Servia) to go to the semis in Flight B doubles.

Semifinals and finals for all doubles and singles flights will take place on Saturday at University Courts.
