Stony Brook, N.Y. - Greetings from the Stony Brook Tennis office and welcome to the third installment of the 2009 Coach's Corner!

On Saturday February 28 the men hit the road and lost to East region power Columbia University. However, the guys returned to action the very next weekend and defeated Princeton 4-3 for the first time in the history of the program. It also marked the first time Stony Brook has defeated an Ivy League school. After dropping the doubles point - the Seawolves came back to win four of six singles matches. Halvar Dil '11 led the way with wins in singles and doubles. On March 6 & 7 the men headed to Bethlehem, Pa. and defeated Lehigh 6-1 and Niagara 7-0 respectively. Jon Epstein '10 picked up four wins over the weekend and Mitch Wong '12 came up with three victories. The men's record now stands at 8-3. This weekend the men open up their home schedule with matches on Friday - March 27 - against St John's at 3:00pm and Sunday - March 29 - against Sacred Heart at 12:00pm.

On Saturday February 28 the women dropped a heartbreaker to Boston University. That marked the ladies first loss of the season. Similar to the men - the women bounced right back with a 7-0 win at Lehigh. Salome Mkervalidze '12 notched two wins on the day. The women's record now stands at a lofty 6-1. This weekend marks a conference showdown with Binghamton. The match is scheduled for Saturday - March 28 at 10:30am. Please come on out and support your Seawolves!!

This past Saturday we held our 3rd annual Seawolves Tennis Family FunFest at Eastern Athletic Club. The event was a great success as everybody had a wonderful time on the court and in the lounge. Several fantastic prizes were up for grabs in the raffle and everybody went home a winner. A special thank you goes out to all in attendance as well as our generous sponsors.

If you were not able to attend the event, but would like to make a donation in support of the tennis program - there is still time to do so (Please click here to make a donation).

As always, if you know of any teammates/supporters that would like to receive the Coach's Corner - please feel free to send me their email address.

Take care and I look forward to seeing you on the other side of the net!
