Flushing, N.Y. - The No. 2 Stony Brook men's tennis team saw its season come to end on Saturday, falling to No. 3 UMBC, 4-1, in the semifinal round of the 2012 America East Championships at the USTA National Tennis Center.

UMBC opened the match by taking a closely contested doubles point. Sophomore Nikita Fomin (Moscow, Russia) and freshman Francis Bertrand (Repentigny, Quebec) won 8-4 at No. 1 but UMBC won 8-5 at No. 3 before winning 7-3 in a third set tiebreak to take a 1-0 lead.

The teams split the first two matches off the court in singles play as freshman Stefan Ilic (Forest Hills, N.Y.) won 6-3, 6-4 at No. 4 while Kamal Patel defeated junior Robert Forai (Novi Sad, Serbia) in straight sets at the No. 6 position.

But UMBC won in three sets at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots to earn the victory and advance to the finals.

The Seawolves finish the season at 9-10.
