Men's tennis knocks off UMBC, 4-3
April 6, 2012 A HREF="http://www.umbcretrievers.com/sports/mtennis/boxscore.asp?GAME_ID=4955" >Results Baltimore, Md. - Junior Robert Forai (Novi Sad, Serbia) won 6-3 in the third set in the deciding match at No. 6 singles to lift the Stony Brook men's tennis team to a 4-3 victory over the UMBC Retrievers on Friday afternoon. Stony Brook opened the match by taking the doubles point with victories at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions. Sophomore Nikita Fomin (Moscow, Russia) and freshman Francis Bertrand (Repentigny, Quebec) won 8-5 at the No. 1 spot. Fomin then won in straight sets at No. 1 singles as did senior Max Sztabholz (Paris, France) at the No. 5 spot. But UMBC won at singles positions 2-4, two in three sets, to tie the match at three. Forai and Kamai Patel split the first two sets in the deciding match at No. 6. But Forai won 6-3 in the third to give Stony Brook the victory. The Seawolves return to action on Tuesday, hosting NJIT.
