VOTE NOW

Seawolves fans can vote for men's soccer junior midfielder Leonardo Fernandes (Sao Paulo, Brazil) for Big Apple Soccer Player of the Year and Soccer News Net Men's College Player of the Year. Fernandes is one of six nominees for the regional honor and one of 37 nominees for the national award. Fan Voting counts for 40% of the actual vote and runs until Dec. 23.

Fernandes had an incredible 2011 season that culminated with a plethora of postseason honors. He had nine goals and seven assists for 25 points, which ranks fifth all-time in Stony Brook single-season history. He was named the America East Midfielder of the Year and first-team All-America East for the second consecutive season. After breaking the conference championship record for points in a game with five, he was named the America East Championship Most Outstanding Player. He was also Stony Brook's first NSCAA All-Northeast Region first team selection since 2005.

Fernandes helped lead Stony Brook to its third conference championship in program history and the second one with him on the field. The Seawolves advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the third time and was narrowly edged by then No. 23 ranked Monmouth in penalty kicks after playing to a scoreless draw.

Fernandes is Stony Brook's all-time Div. I leader in career goals with 22. Including Stony Brook's non-Div. I era, he is ninth all-time in points (54), tied for seventh in goals and ninth in assists.
