Cambridge, Mass. - Sophomore Martin Giordano (Weston, Fla.) headlined five Stony Brook men's soccer student-athletes who received end-of-year awards from America East, the conference office announced Friday. Giordano was named second-team All-America East, freshmen Tavares Thompson (Kingston, Jamaica) and Jorge Torres (Miami, Fla.) were named to the America East All-Rookie team, and Giordano and senior Carlos Villa (Caracas, Venezuela) were selected to the America East All-Rookie team.

Giordano, who was an All-Rookie team pick in 2012, ranked second in America East in assists during the regular season with six. His three assists during conference play were tied for the league lead. He finished the year with two goals and six assists for a team-best 10 points.

Thompson and Torres both started every game for the #Seawolves, Thompson on the back line and Torres in the midfield. Torres had one goal and one assist while playing strong defense. Thompson was also solid on defense, helping Stony Brook pitch five shutouts and only allow 1.29 goals per match. Stony Brook allowed three goals in a match only twice in 2013.

Giordano has the highest GPA on the team, earning his first All-Academic nod. He sports a 3.87 GPA while majoring in Mechanical Engineering and previously has been on the America East Commissioner's Honor Roll. Villa also earns his first All-Academic honor and has a 3.62 GPA while majoring in Economics. He too has been on the America East Commissioner's Honor Roll.
