The Stony Brook men's soccer team hosted a successful spring clinic and exhibition game on March 30, welcoming over 1,300 fans and 270 clinic participants to LaValle Stadium.

The pre-game clinic, which was open to all boys & girls ages 6-13, was run by the Stony Brook coaching staff and student-athletes and helped teach youths the fundamentals of soccer and the importance of teamwork to achieve success.

Then after the clinic, the Seawolves defeated Connecticut 4-0. The Huskies were the No. 5 team in the country and an NCAA Tournament quarterfinalist last season.

"Tonight wasn't as much about the game as it was about reaching out to the community," head coach Ryan Anatol said. "We are very thankful for the support that we received, and the crowd truly made this a great event. The game had a regular season feel to it, and our players definitely grew from the experience, which will help us as we continue to prepare for the fall."

Stony Brook is 2-0-0 in its spring season after its win over Connecticut and a previous 2-0 win over Seton Hall. Senior Leonardo Fernandes has scored three goals in the two games. Junior transfer Shane Wixted scored in the win over Seton Hall, and fellow transfer Ryan Price scored against Connecticut. Redshirt freshman Sverre Ofstad, who is returning after missing the majority of last fall due to injury, scored against UConn.

Stony Brook will continue its spring season April 14 against the Bridgeport Purple Knights.

The program will be hosting more clinics during the spring and summer. There will be an ID Clinic on Saturday, April 14th for male high school and two-year junior college players. There will also be a Skills Development Camp for boys & girls ages 5-14 on July 9-13 and an Elite Training Overnight Camp for boys ages 9-17 on July 22-25.
