2010 Lacrosse World Championship Set To Begin Pool Play on Friday

Manchester, England - Six individuals with ties to Stony Brook will be participating in 2010 FIL World Lacrosse Championships in Manchester, England. Pool play starts today and will go through July 20. The finals are scheduled for July 24. Two of the tournament's favorites, USA and Canada, are expected to be face each other in the finals on the 24th. Stony Brook head coach Rick Sowell is an assistant with Team USA, who will look to regain the Championship from Canada. As the defending world champions, Team Canada will have the services of junior Kevin Crowley (New Westminster, British Columbia) and Rhys Duch '08. USA and Canada will meet on Saturday, July 17 at 2:30 pm Eastern time. England, which is also in the Blue Group, has incoming freshman Jak Wawrzyniak (Manchester, England). Wawrzyniak, who spent the last year at Avon Old Farms in Connecticut, is the youngest member of Team England. In the Turquoise Group, Team Scotland will have junior Jordan McBride (New Westminster, British Columbia). Scotland also will face Latvia, New Zealand and France in pool play. Team Poland, with assistant coach Sean Chamberlain '07, won their first game, 16-2, over Bermuda.
