No. 20 Yale rallies past Men's Lacrosse in overtime
The Stony Brook men's lacrosse team received two goals apiece from sophomore Matt Bellando and senior Russ Bonanno, but Yale's Greg Mahony scored 1:06 into overtime to lift the No. 20 Bulldogs to a 9-8 victory.

About the Game
Competing in its final non-conference game of the season, the Stony Brook men's lacrosse team heads across Long Island Sound to face Yale.  The Bulldogs, ranked No. 15 in this week's coaches poll, enter Monday's contest with a 7-3 record.  Stony Brook fell to Yale in overtime last season, 9-8.  The Seawolves led 5-1 and 7-5 midway through the fourth quarter, but Yale rallied and took an 8-7 lead with 2:42 left in regulation.  Mike Rooney tied the game with 1:50 left, but Greg Mahoney's goal 1:06 into overtime lifted Yale to the win.

Scouting Yale
Junior Brandan Mangan leads Yale with 25 goals and 19 assists.  Sophomore Conrad Oberbeck has 23 goals and senior Kirby Zdrill is third with 21 goals.  Junior Dylan Levings has taken all but three draws, winning 134 of 213 (63 percent).  Levings also has a team-high 84 ground balls.  Sophomore Eric Natale has started all 10 games in goal, registering a 7.82 goals against average and a .530 save percentage.


 

 

Last Time Out
Despite three goals from senior Jeff Tundo (Orchard Park, N.Y.) and freshmen Brody Eastwood (Victoria, British Columbia) and Jake Sichenzia (Sayville, N.Y.), the Stony Brook men's lacrosse team fell to UMBC, 13-12, Saturday at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium.  Sophomore Mike Rooney (East Islip, N.Y.) added a goal and three assists for the Seawolves (6-6, 1-2 America East).

Nate Lewnes, Pat Young and Scott Hopmann each had two goals for UMBC (5-6, 2-1).  Young's goal with 2:39 left in the fourth quarter broke a 12-12 tie.

Stony Brook led by as many as three, 7-4, after Sichenzia's sixth of the season with 3:19 to go in the second quarter.  The Retrievers scored four straight to take their first lead since 3-2 in the first quarter.

Down 12-11, UMBC scored two straight, including Dave Brown's goal, which tied the game at 12 with 4:11 to play in regulation. 

Freshman Dan Shaughnessy (Sudbury, Mass.) finished with 10 saves for Stony Brook.
