Stony Brook, N.Y. - The Stony Brook men's lacrosse team has been picked to finish second in the America East, conference officials announced Wednesday. The Seawolves picked up one first-place vote and 24 points overall. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own team.

Albany received all five first-place votes and 25 overall. UMBC was picked third, followed by Binghamton, Hartford and Vermont.

Under third-year head coach Jim Nagle, Stony Brook returns seven starters and 23 letterwinners from last year's squad, which advanced to its 12th straight America East Championship.

The Seawolves return four of their top five leading scorers, including sophomore Brody Eastwood (Victoria, British Columbia) and Challen Rogers (Coquitlam, British Columbia), who combined for 62 goals and 27 assists. Eastwood finished the season tied with Penn State's TJ Sanders for the most goals among freshmen (44).

Junior Mike Rooney (East Islip, N.Y.) tallied 19 goals and 23 assists, recording more than 40 points for a second straight season.

The defense returns senior George Benitez (Darien, Conn.), who started all 16 games and junior Bryan Judge (Melville, N.Y.), who led all close defensemen with 34 ground balls.

Stony Brook, which hosts Marist in the season opener on Friday, February 14, will playing a Division I-high 10 home games.
