Stony Brook, N.Y. -

In this week's Big South football playoff teleconference, coach Chuck Priore recaps the regular season and looks ahead to hosting Villanova in the first round of the Division I Football Championship on Saturday.

Regular Season Recap ...

  • "It was a satisfying season.  When you win nine games, you have to be pleased with your performance.  We got great leadership from our 21 seniors.  We were able to stay consistent and overcome some injuries, while playing a very competitive schedule.  I feel like we earned the right to be playing on Saturday based on our body of work.  Looking back on the loss to Liberty, it was a bump in the road, but a loss doesn't define who we are.  These kids fought hard with no bye week, but on the other hand, this bye week could not have come at a better time.  We were able to regroup and set goals and keep things in perspective.  Having a home game is phenomenal.  Seeing our name gave a charge into our program, which I hope carries over to Saturday."
Looking ahead to Villanova ...
  • This will be a huge challenge.  Villanova has been challenged in the best conference at our level week in and week out.  They won the title in 2009, and Coach Talley and his staff have done a great job with the program.  I would consider Villanova to be one of the premier programs in FCS.
