PRIORE'S WEEKLY TELECONFERENCE

In this week's Big South football teleconference, coach Chuck Priore discusses what it took to beat tough Coastal Carolina team and points out the challenges of facing a much-improved Gardner-Webb squad.

Coastal Carolina recap ...

  • "First and foremost, the way the game was played was a compliment to both teams. I think both teams competed. It's what I anticipated going into the game. I thought we got a break or two to win the game. Not only is it the second straight conference win, but it's also our second straight win against a team coming off a bye. I thought we did the things we needed to do to win the game. Kyle (Essington) was 7 of 7 for 156 yards in the first half, and in the second half, we were able to run the ball effectively. We had good balance. We made the necessary stops in the second half. We made enough plays in crucial situations. Outside of Syracuse, I thought Coastal Carolina was the best offensive team we've faced all season."

Looking ahead to Gardner-Webb ...

  • "I'm real impressed where Gardner-Webb is at today. Sometimes your record speaks for you; well, Gardner-Webb's record does not speak for them. They've played some competitive games. They're stout on defense. When I looked at last year's game, at times they were more physical than us at the run game and at the point of attack. They're very talented at linebacker and in their secondary. They've been able to throw the ball effectively. They have a similar thought process like us in that they're going to try to run the ball and stop the run effectively."
