Kickoff: After three straight road games to start the season, the No. 23 Stony Brook football team returns home to face No. 2 Towson. The Tigers will be the highest ranked opponent to visit Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium since No. 9 Massachusetts in 2010. Stony Brook (1-2, 1-1) is coming off a 35-6 loss to No. 20 Villanova, while Towson defeated North Carolina Central, 35-17.
Mike Solano (PBP) and Curt Hylton (color) will call the action on the new home of Stony Brook Football, Champions Radio. Fans can listen to the game on 107.1 and 96.9 as well as online at ChampionsRadio.com.
Opponent: Towson picked up one of Football Championship Subdivision's (FCS) early wins over the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) with a 33-18 victory at Connecticut. The Tigers trounced Holy Cross and Delaware State, 49-7, before overcoming an upset bid from North Carolina Central, 35-17. Junior Terrance West already has 359 yards and nine touchdowns on the ground after only three games. Senior Peter Athens has been sharp at quarterback, throwing for 633 yards and four touchdowns. Senior Telvion Clark has 25 tackles, 11 more than any other Tiger. This is Towson's fourth road game of the season.
Series: Today's meeting will be the first between Towson and Stony Brook.
Saturday's Promotions: The first 1,000 fans in attendance will receive a schedule poster and a drawstring bag courtesy of the Holiday Inn Express Stony Brook. A reunion of the 1988 Stony Brook football team will be honored throughout the game. The game also marks the 12th Annual Raymond M. Downey Heroes Classic, played in honor of Chief Downey, who lost his life rescuing others from the World Trade Center on September 11. Chief Downey's son, Chuck, is one of the greatest football players in school history. Despite graduating 25 years ago, Downey still owns numerous NCAA Division III records.
Crowd Advisory: A large crowd is expected for Saturday's home opener against Towson. All general public parking is on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Gameday/Ticket Policies: High School football prospects and Stony Brook University students can enter the facility at Gate 1. Members of the media and VIPs are asked to pick up their credentials at Gate 3. Player comps, coaches' tickets, Towson reservations, band, dance and cheer and general will call will be found at the tent outside Gate 6. Stony Brook Athletics asks that you bring a valid ID to pick up tickets. Will Call opens at 4, general sales at 4:30 and gates open at 5 p.m. General sales are located at Gate 2 and 6. Online sales will end at 2 p.m. Saturday.
