Stony Brook, N.Y. - Saturday's loss was a very disappointing for our football program, and really there are a number of reasons for that. The game of football is a tricky game; we did not play up to our potential at any aspect of the game. That being said, Brown found a way to win the game. When you examine the game from the coach's chair, you can spot several reasons why, but what is more important as head football coach is not to go back and dwell on the loss, but to move forward. Our kids gave a good effort, we had chances to score more points than we did and win in regulation. We just didn't play a good game. Statistically, there might be some good that came out of the game. I take full responsibility as the head football coach to right that situation, the team needs to take accountability for their play and coaches need to take accountability for their preparation. Ultimately, we need to put this game behind us, and I think we have.

UMass presents the typical problem for Stony Brook. They're physical, and you know they'll be excited to play here after a tough loss at Michigan last week from the perspective that they had chances to win. They played in a tough environment and handled it well, so you know they'll be ready. Our goal is to match up correctly on the field, put our kids in the position to be successful and come out with a workmen's-type of attitude to win this game. I have all the confidence in the world in our team that we'll show up and play correctly on our home field. We're going to compete as the underdog and I don't think that will matter much, as I have witnessed the last few weeks in college football. We're excited about Saturday's game and look forward to seeing everyone out there.
