Maysonet, Dudley, Essington honored by Beyond College Sports Network
June 27, 2012
Stony Brook, N.Y. - Seniors Miguel Maysonet (Riverhead, N.Y.) and Kyle Essington (Chino Hills, Calif.), and junior Jawara Dudley (Roosevelt, N.Y.) were named to the 2012 Beyond College Sports Madness' preseason All-America team. Maysonet and Dudley were honored as second-team selections, while Essington is on the third team.
Maysonet's 2011 season was one for the ages. He rushed for 1,633 yards, the most in Stony Brook and Big South Conference history. Maysonet had two games with four rushing touchdowns, also a conference record, and totaled more than 100 rushing yards in eight games. The reigning Big South Offensive Player of the Year, Maysonet is only 847 yards shy of breaking Conte Cuttino's school-record 3,607 rushing yards.
Dudley, who finished second on the team with 71 tackles, led the Seawolves with 4.5 sacks. His forced fumble against VMI resulted in a touchdown, and his QB hurry against Albany forced a game-saving interception. Currently on a streak of 20 straight starts, Dudley will lead a strong group of linebackers, which includes juniors Grant Nakwaasah (Richardson, Texas) and Reginald Francklin (Valley Stream, N.Y.).
Essington, a second team All-Big South selection, passed for 1,919 yards and 20 touchdowns, despite not starting a game until the fifth week of the season. He took over for an injured Michael Coulter and passed for 292 yards and four touchdowns, and ran for another against Presbyterian. Essington threw only four interceptions, ranking second in passing efficiency (162.26).
Stony Brook, which advanced to the second round of the Division I Football Championship, will open the season at home against Central Connecticut.
