STONY BROOK, N.Y. (AP) - Chad King returned the opening kickoff in Seawolves Stadium history 94 yards for the first of his two touchdowns and Stony Brook beat St. John's 34-9 Saturday night.

King returned a punt 58 yards for a touchdown with 7:07 left in the first quarter to give Stony Brook a 14-0 lead before an opening-night sellout crowd of 8,136.

Ken Lockhart scored twice in the fourth quarter for the Seawolves (1-0) on runs of 10 yards at 14:53 and 26 yards at 5:00. He finished with 119 yards on 18 carries.

Quarterback Scott Bard threw a 17-yard touchdown pass to Courtney Mitchell at 7:40 of the third quarter to make it 21-3. Bard finished 17-of-27 for 190 yards.

Mike Catanzaro's 89-yard runback of a fumble by Bard at 2:23 of the third quarter accounted for the lone touchdown for St. John's (1-1).
