Stony Brook to join CAA Football in 2013

A new era of Stony Brook Football in the premier FCS conference to begin in 2013.

Rob Neviaser is in his second season at Stony Brook. Neviaser made an immediate impression on the defensive line as Ryan Haber and Roosevelt Kirk were named All-Big South selections. He coached a defense which accounted for 16 forced fumble and 11 fumble recoveries.

Neviaser was named assistant coach at Stony Brook in February 2011. He will serve as the Seawolves' defensive coordinator, replacing Jim Gush, who accepted a position at Baylor University.

Neviaser comes to Stony Brook after three years at Rhode Island. During his time with the Rams, Neviaser served as defensive line coach each season, acting as defensive coordinator for the last two. In 2010, Rhode Island upset #2 Villanova and #8 New Hampshire, as Neviaser's defense forced seven turnovers. In 2009, the Rams' defensive unit ranked second in the CAA with a plus-10 turnover margin.

Prior to Rhode Island, Neviaser spent five seasons at the University of Delaware. The Blue Hens went 41-22 during that span, winning the Division 1-AA title in 2003. Delaware recorded 41 sacks and 116 tackles for loss, leading the Atlantic 10 in rushing defense and scoring defense on its way to the national championship.

Before spending five seasons at Yale, which went 9-1 and won the Ivy League title in 1999, Neviaser began his coaching career at King's College, serving as inside linebackers coach. He also spent one-year stints with Harvard and Boston College.

Neviaser is a 1993 graduate of Williams College with a degree in political science. A two-sport student-athlete with the Ephs, who went 28-3-2 during his four years, Neviaser also played lacrosse.
