Mike McCarty will begin his third season with Stony Brook in the fall of 2003. McCarty joined SBU in the spring of 2001 and was elevated to Associate Head Coach/Offensive Coordinator following the conclusion of the last season.
McCarty came to Stony Brook with over 10 years of coaching experience at the Division I level. His spread offense has given SBU an exciting look and put the Seawolves in position to put plenty of points on the board. Last fall, the Seawolves racked up 236 points, the teamís most productive offensive season since 1995, and had three players earn all-conference recognition.
McCarty is also responsible for team academics, preparing the budget and is the liaison to the financial aid office.
For the two years prior to joining SBU, he had been the offensive coordinator and the quarterbacks coach at Nicholls State University. Before Nicholls State, he spent two seasons at Troy State as a wide receivers coach.
McCarty began his coaching career at the University of Oregon in 1988 as a graduate assistant before moving on to Oregon Tech where he served as its offensive coordinator for one season.
He then assumed the position of pass game coordinator at Southeast Missouri State from 1992-93 prior to taking over as offensive coordinator at Hofstra University. During his two years at Hofstra, his offense ranked in the Top 10 among all Division I-AA schools in total offense in each season.
McCarty is a native of Oregon City, Ore. and a 1988 graduate of Portland State University. He resides in Rocky Point with his wife Kim and their two children Macy and Beau.
