Cambridge, Mass. - For the fourth consecutive year, the Stony Brook men's basketball team has been picked to finish second in America East by the conference's other eight head coaches, the conference announced as part of its unveiling of the preseason poll Wednesday.

The #Seawolves received three out of a possible eight first-place votes to finish with 58 points, six behind conference favorite Vermont (64). Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own team. Trailing Stony Brook in the poll were Albany (49), Hartford (44), New Hampshire (31), UMBC (28), Binghamton (24), Maine (20) and UMass Lowell (8).

Stony Brook has now been picked to finish second in each of the last four seasons, but the #Seawolves have earned first-place votes each year. Despite never being picked to win the regular season, the team has captured three of the last four regular season championships.

Furthermore, the coaches' preseason favorite has not gone on to win the regular season championship since Albany did it during the 2005-06 season. The last preseason favorite to win the tournament title was Boston University during the 2010-11 season.

Led by ninth-year head coach Steve Pikiell, Stony Brook returns four starters from last season's team that produced the most wins in its Div. I history (25), won the America East regular season championship and produced the first national postseason victory in program history. Leading the way for the #Seawolves are senior captains Dave Coley, a preseason All-America East selection, Anthony Jackson and Eric McAlister and 2013 America East Rookie of the Year Jameel Warney, also a preseason All-America East pick.

The #Seawolves open the 2013-14 campaign Friday, Nov. 8 against Marist at Pritchard Gymnasium at 8 p.m.
