Stony Brook, N.Y. - Senior Chris Martin (Springfield Gardens, N.Y.) and freshman Dave Coley (Brooklyn, N.Y.) of the Stony Brook University basketball team recently completed play at the 2010 Empire State Games, leading the Long Island Region team to a bronze medal in the Open Division. The team was coached by Stony Brook men's basketball assistant Dan Rickard.

After dropping its opening game to the eventual gold medalist from the Western Region, the Long Island squad rallied to win its next three games to take the bronze. Coley scored a team-high 23 points in the bronze medal game, an 85-80 double overtime victory over the team from the Adirondack region. Coley averaged 15.5 points per game in the four games.

Martin scored 22 in Long Island's 87-76 win over the team from New York City, during which Long Island trailed by as many as 18 points. Coley's three-pointer with just less than five minutes remaining broke a 74-all tie and put Long Island up for good.

A rising senior for the Seawolves, Martin averaged 14.5 points per contest in the tournament. Martin started 17 games last season for Stony Brook, which won its first America East regular season title and won a Division I program record 22 games. The 6-1 guard averaged a career-high 10.8 points per game.

An incoming freshman, Coley was a four-year starter at Thomas Jefferson High School in Brooklyn. A captain for Jefferson last season, he led the Orange Wave to the PSAL Class AA quarterfinals.

Coley averaged 16 points and five rebounds per game and was named to the 2010 All-Brooklyn second team by the New York Post. He was also selected to play in the Jordan Brand Classic Regional Game and scored 20 points.
