Stony Brook, N.Y. - Stony Brook men's basketball freshman Jameel Warney (Plainfield, N.J.) has been named America East Rookie of the Week for the fifth time this season after averaging 13.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.0 blocks in a pair of Seawolves victories, the conference office announced Monday.

Warney was a dominant force on both ends of the floor. At Manhattan last Tuesday, he had a pair of critical layups at the end of the game to help the Seawolves beat the Jaspers 50-44. He finished the game with eight points and two blocks. Then at home against New Hampshire, he scored a game-high 18 points and blocked a career-high four shots in helping lead the Seawolves to a 65-49 win. He was 7-for-8 from the floor, the fourth time this season he has shot 87 percent or better in a game.

This season, Warney is averaging 11.9 points, 6.9 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game while shooting a conference-best 61.3 percent from the field. He has blocked at least one shot in seven consecutive games and 13 of 14 games this season.

Warney and the Seawolves are 10-4 overall and 1-0 in America East. They hit the road for the eighth time in their last nine games Wednesday at Binghamton at 7 p.m.
