Stony Brook, N.Y. - Stony Brook University's Department of Athletics will host a "Celebration of Stony Brook Men's and Women's Basketball" on January 31 as it welcomes back basketball alumni from every generation to celebrate the past, present and future of Stony Brook Basketball. The current Seawolves' teams will be hosting UMBC in an America East doubleheader that day, beginning with the women's contest at 4 p.m. with the men's game to follow at 7 p.m. Between games of the doubleheader, a reception will be held for all former men's and women's basketball players and coaches in the Goldstein Family Student-Athlete Development Center.

Stony Brook is playing its home games this season in historic and intimate Pritchard Gymnasium while Stony Brook University is in the initial stages of a multi-million renovation. Pritchard Gym was the original home to Stony Brook Basketball and provided the backdrop to many great teams, including the 1977-78 men's team that advanced to the Final Four and the 1986-87 women's squad that posted a 24-5 mark en route to an NCAA Tournament appearance. A record turnout of basketball alumni is expected for this special event.

For more information on the event, kindly R.S.V.P. to Jennifer Logan at (631) 632-4002 or via e-mail at Jennifer.Logan@stonybrook.eduby Friday, January 23, 2009.
