Final Stats

Bloomington, Ind, - The Stony Brook men's basketball team, plagued by foul trouble all night, gave the nationally ranked Indiana Hoosiers everything it had, but the #Seawolves could not overcome 32 fouls, 49 IU free throw attempts and 39.3 percent shooting as the Hoosiers downed Stony Brook 90-74 Sunday night at Assembly Hall. Sophomores Carson Puriefoy (Wenonah, N.J.) and Jameel Warney (Plainfield, N.J.) led Stony Brook with 22 and 19 points, respectively.

Stony Brook's season-opening three-game winning streak comes to an end, leaving the #Seawolves at 3-1. Indiana improved to 4-0 on the young season.

Head Coach Steve Pikiell's Reaction
"Our key tonight was to limit their trips to the foul line, and obviously we weren't able to do that. I'm proud of our team's effort, but we need to defend without fouling. We can't give up 90 points and expect to win games. That's not who we are. But give credit to Indiana; that's a good basketball team. They are long, athletic and well-coached."

Turning Point
Despite being called for 18 first-half fouls, which led to 28 Indiana free throw attempts, the #Seawolves hung around with the Hoosiers to go into halftime only trailing by six, 41-35. At the start of the second half, Warney made a pair of free throws to cut the deficit to four, 41-37.

But that was as close as Stony Brook could get. The Hoosiers came on with a 12-4 run to expand the lead to 12, and Stony Brook failed to get within single digits the rest of the way.
